Come hither my friends! Pour yourself a scotch and join me hearthside for a tasty dram. As one of the proud founding fathers of Dram of Scotch it is my pleasure to join the online whisky community. How did this all begin you ask?
Allow me to put down my leather bound Beowulf and tobacco pipe to tell you the tale of my love affair with a mistress named scotch. My appreciation for fine whiskies began relatively recently. The exact date was October 13, 2010 at a Macallan tasting event in Chicago which served as the product introduction of the Macallan 10 yr oak. While the 10 yr fine oak debuted to the hundreds in attendance, I debuted myself to Macallan, scotch, and whisky as a whole.
My first taste was the Macallan 10 yr fine oak and I remember thinking, “Good heavens, this is nasty!” (Sorry Macallan but I still think this!) I hung in there. As the tasting progressed I was able to sample the sweet likes of the 12, 15, 17, and 18 yr. Yes, there is something to this. The seed had been planted.
About a month later I remember feeling that all I have been drinking since college was beer and wine. A bottle of Macallan 12 was purchased, and it was, wait for it, wait for it, legendary! Not long after a Balvenie Doublewood was followed by a Clynelish 14, a Macallan 15, a Laphroaig Quarter Cask. A tasty pattern was emerging. So, what about dramofscotch.com?
By early 2011 whisky had become my drink of choice. Only beginning to realize everything that whisky has to offer, a few of my friends were in a similar position as myself – ready to explore the scotch whisky universe and take on a project. Making casual conversation we found ourselves exploring the web for scotch related material. While searching we found that no one had claimed www.dramofscotch.com, so we were either starting a scotch blog or a cyber squatting empire. The first seemed like much more fun, we went with that.
Dram of Scotch gives us the opportunity to share our scotch experiences with you, the reader. First off, we are not experts. (but, we are getting closer by the dram, and I’m pleased to say those #s are mounting at an alarmingly awesome rate!) Sharing my experiences via our website is fun and hopefully serves our readers well as a source of whisky related information and entertainment. For myself, I enjoy the opportunity to write up, learn, and interact with the online community about whisky.
If you have made it this far through the profile, well done. That’s me, dram time. Cheers!
Mike @ Dram of Scotch

Being a long time wehiksy drinker I cannot believe I have never heard of Whiskey Wednesdays!!! Looks like the hump day just turned into funday!
Hi there,
I see that there are no reviews after 2012. Are you still writing and tasting?
Is your site still up and running?
So far I love what I see.
Check out D’artagnan’s Cellar Ltd at 1486 Waukegan Rd, Glenview. Tell Paul that Jason sent you.
Jason – The guys at DOS have been on a temporary hiatus, but we should be back up and running very soon.
Thanks for the recommendation. We will have to check out D’artagnan’s Cellar ASAP and will mention your name. Just curious as to what affiliation you have with them…or is it just an awesome store that you recommend. Either way, thanks for the suggestion…we are always looking for new places to check out.
We hope you enjoy the site. Look for new reviews in the very near future!
Thanks,
Derek
I’ve been shopping at that store for around 6 years now. I found D’artagnan’s Cellar when I was living in The Glen. Paul is great! You can taste all sorts of different scotches at all price points, and get great tips from the owner, Paul.
My all time favourite is the North of Scotland 1964.
Tell him that the Canadian sent you.
I’ll be checking in to see more from your site. Thanks so much,
Jason.
